Class of 72 Reunion Donation

Hi Everyone... November 10, Mavis, Darryl and Al made our donation to the Parkland Food Bank in Spruce Grove.

We met with Sheri Ratsoy, Executive Director, of the Food Bank.

Sheri gave us a complete tour of their facility and explained the entire process to us, right from qualifying folks who need support, bringing food into the facility, preparation, packaging and getting the hampers ready for pick-up.

A large portion of their food comes from donations from the larger grocery stores in Stony Plain and Spruce Grove.

Funds they receive goes directly to buying product and paying expenses. They do not receive any funding from either the provincial or federal governments.

Sheri gave some rough stats that approximately 34% goes to Spruce Grove area, 18% Stony Plain, and the remainder to Parkland County which includes the Paul Band.

They have a unique color code system with coloured dots which shows how much product, from the various bins, goes to different sized family units – single, couple, four, or larger.  In some of the photos you will be able to see the dot system.

The entire tour and background was very interesting.

We told her about our reunion and how we designated the Parkland Food Bank, up front, as a charity we wanted to give excess funds to.

She appreciated our story and our $504.71 donation.
